The Danieli interior
It was the end of the 14th century, when a magnificent building was raised in Venice, in calle delle Rasse overlooking the Riva degli Schiavoni. The owner was a noble Venetian family, the Dandolos. From the historical chronicle, Palazzo Dandolo was one of the most pompous and richly decorated buildings where there were always social events. In 1824 it was purchased and turned into a hotel by Giuseppe Dal Niel.

With sweeping views over the Venetian lagoons, Hotel Danieli enjoys a location rich in history on Riva degli Schiavoni. The hotel is just moments from Piazza San Marco, the heart of the city and guests can easily wander around the many authentic streets nearby.
Dr Holly Goodhead at the Danieli in Moonraker
In 1979, both the extrerior and the interior of the elegant hotel was used in Moonraker. The most lavishly furnished (and most expensive) apartment of the hotel is the Suite del Doge (Royal Suite). In this spacious room the scene was shot where Dr Holly Goodhead surrenders to the charms of 007 and they decide to ‘pool their resources’. It is fitted out with a gilded timbered ceiling, sumptuous damasks, gold-framed paintings, heavy carpets and antique furniture. An eye-catcher is the huge wooden fireplace, which is visible in the film. You might really wonder how two underpaid secret agents can afford such a posh accommodation..
